Senior Pam Erickson (Golden Valley, AZ) and junior Paul Gonzalez (West Covina, CA/West Covina High School) (West Covina, CA) came across the finish line first for WNMU at the University California - Riverside on Saturday morning. Erickson and Gonzalez have been the first to score for the Mustangs for the fourth time in a row.
On the women's side, the Mustangs finished 16th out of 22 teams. The team averaged a time of 19:45.12 in the five-kilometer run. Coming in first was host UCR with an average time of 17:32.92.
Erickson finished four places ahead of teammate runner Cassandra Sanchez (Acoma Pueblo, NM) who placed 69th and finished with a time of 19:04.80.
The men ran their eight-kilometer race in an average time of 26:38.98. Gonzalez finished strong with 24:57.90 finish time, good for 10th place. Freshman Ryan Nez (Navajo, NM/Navajo Pine High School) (Navajo, NM) was in second for the Mustangs, placing 40th. He completed the race in 26:13.70.
Just like the women, UCR came in first, completing the course with an average time of 24:40.16.
Both Mustang teams travel to Arizona State University next weekend to compete in their annual race.
